A CHARITY’S garden is looking ship-shape after a group of naval volunteers gave it the once over.
The children’s garden at Scope Short Breaks Centre in Shakers Lane, Bury St Edmunds, was brought back to life by helpers from HMS Vengeance and Bury Sea Cadets last Wednesday and Thursday.
The work was organised by the HMS Vengeance crew, who have regularly helped out Scope in the past with fund-raising.
Eight volunteers removed and cut back branches and hedges to give the children who visit the centre more room to play.
A tree surgeon also chipped in to make sure the trees were being managed properly.
Grace Fordham, service manager at the centre, said the children had been making the most of the new space.
“The children have had a great time running around outside and they are really happy with the new garden.
“We can’t thank the volunteers enough and they have done something that we would not have been able to ourselves,” she said.
The garden includes a go-kart track for the children which has been brought back into action as a result of the work.
