Charity releases foodbank details

THE date for the opening of the foodbank in Bury St Edmunds will be announced next week.

Amanda Bloomfield, chief executive of Gatehouse, the charity that will run the foodbank, gave an update to a meeting of The Howard Estate Association of Residents and Tenants (Heart) on Monday.

Gatehouse already runs a Christmas food parcel scheme but will extend that to run throughout the year

Mrs Bloomfield said the organisations like the Jobcentre will give out vouchers to people who will then collect their food from community centres.

She said the foodbank would not run a drop-in service for people who have not been issued with vouchers.

And those repeatedly in need of food will be referred to other organisations for further help.

Gatehouse needs volunteers and donations of in-date tins and packets of food, tea and coffee. Call 01284 754967.
