Charity hopes to recruit for bike ride challenge
A Suffolk-based children’s charity, which runs the visitors’ centre at HMP Highpoint in Stradishall, has launched its latest fund-raising campaign - the London to Paris Cycle Challenge.
The Ormiston Children and Families Trust is hoping to capitalise on the recent surge in the popularity of cycling by recruiting at least 20 people for the three day sporting challenge, which sets off on June 26.
Lucy Potter, Ormiston’s head of fund-raising, completed the bike ride a few years ago and will be joining the cyclists.
She said: “After all the great cycling achievements in 2012 we’re really hoping people will be inspired to take on their own sporting challenge.
“London to Paris is one of the best cycling routes in Europe - the setting is so picturesque and the finishing line is at the Eiffel Tower in Paris which is just stunning.”
Kim Radley was one of the first people to sign up to the challenge.
She said: “I enjoy challenging myself in all aspects of fitness but cycling is something that I’ve never really done before so London to Paris will definitely be hard work.
“I have never taken part in anything like this before and I’m really looking forward to it. When I mention it to other people I’m always told how amazing the whole experience is.”
Setting off on June 26, the team will cycle through the Kent countryside before crossing the Channel and continuing through the small villages and medieval market towns of northern France.
They will cycle up to 80 miles a day before reaching the finishing point, the Eiffel Tower, on June 29.
Ormiston has more than 40 services across six counties in the East of England. In Suffolk, it runs a children’s centre, works with families affected by imprisonment and delivers a range of parenting support programmes.
Anyone interested in taking part in the challenge should email email@example.com or call Vicky Beckinsale on 07825 337161.
