The chairman of Cedars Park Community Interest Company, which oversees the estate’s community centre, has said bookings are coming in thick and fast for use of the centre.

Chairman Dusty Miller said the roof to the building was currently being fitted and that it should be watertight by Christmas.

Negotiations are currently under way to confirm a provider for a pre-school at the centre and a caterer has now been selected to provide the food.

Mr Miller said he expected the centre to open as planned on April 1.

He said: “I have already had a lot of bookings for events at the centre. I have provisional bookings for Slimming World, the Rosemary Conley fitness group, Zumba lessons and Achido.

“My research into most community centres is that they generally have very little going on in the day time during the week and only get going on Friday and the weekend.

“What we are trying to do with Cedars Park Communoity Centre is make it a much more active village centre.

“At the moment there is not much going on in Cedars Park in terms of events and activities.

“We want to create a real meeting place that is busy all week round.

“We are aiming that it will serve food and drink from 9am until closing time every day.”

Mr Miller said provisional bookings for events were coming in fast and that he had even booked in a wedding in July.

He said: “I say it will be open and full of activity every day.

“We are going to have themed meals on a regular basis with curry nights, Chinese nights and Italian nights.

“We are planning to send out a newsletter every month to tell people on the estate what is happening at the centre.

“But the real emphasi sof the centre will be on families and activities for them.

“It is a very exciting time for Cedars Park – normally I’m not great at visualising, but I can see the centre will be great.”
