A three month campaign to fight catalytic converter theft has been launched in the East by the charity Crimestoppers.

It is distributing 120,000 ‘Let the cat out of the bag’ fliers across the eastern counties and putting up posters in theft hot spots as well as offering cash rewards for information leading to prosecutions.

Terry Pearce, from the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, said “We are funding Crimestoppers to run this campaign not only because it is costing the UK economy millions but because of the human impact it can have on the community. We have heard of ambulance service vehicles being put of action due to this criminal activity”

In Bury St Edmunds last year one company’s entire van fleet was hit by thieves.

Suffolk Police Safer Neighbourhood teams hold regular cat marking sessions across the county.

If you have any information on catalytic convertor theft or any other metal theft then please contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
