Cadets’ delight at new boat

A SEA Cadet group has thanked the generosity of a councillor and put out a plea for help after they raised enough money for a key piece of equipment.

A £750 donation from Suffolk county councillor Stephen Frost’s locality budget went a long way to Mildenhall Sea Cadets raising the £2,500 it needed for a new Trinity 500 rowing boat.

Another £975 was raised by the cadets themselves after they rolled up their sleeves and packed Sainsbury’s customers’ bags over Christmas.

The boat will be used for training and competitions.

Angela Shipp, chairman, said the group was now on a female instructor recruitment drive.

“We urgently need new instructors – they can be civilian or work their way up to being uniformed.

“You’ll have fun with the cadets, get nationally-recognised boating qualifications and we’ll be paying for the courses,” she said.
