Bury St Edmunds wins gold in Anglia in Bloom

THE results of the Anglia in Bloom Environmental Campaign were announced today, with Bury St Edmunds picking up a gold in the large town category.

“We’re absolutely thrilled - having been out of Anglia in Bloom for a year, to come back on the gold level was absolutely fantastic,” said campaign manager Julia Rackowe.

She added: “We were quite close and next year we want to be overall winner.”

Chairman Simon Pott said: “It’s been a huge success, we’re thrilled to bits. We believe it was very very close. In Suffolk terms, we were at the top of the large towns.”

Stowmarket received a silver award in the large town category and Growing Well, in Bury, was nominated for best community project in the special awards category.

Bob Ollier, chairman of Anglia in Bloom, said: “After one of the wettest and most difficult summers, including a hose pipe ban, it is astonishing that the Anglia communities have achieved some of the best blooming displays across the six counties of the Anglia region. With superb floral displays and excellent community work, we have seen standards raised beyond expectations, with no fewer than 17 gold, 23 silver gilt, 13 silver and three bronze awards.”

Halstead won best overall entry and the Anglia in Bloom trophy.
