Bury St Edmunds to get its own beach

Forget booking up to get away to the beach – Bid4Bury is bringing the beach to Bury St Edmunds in May.

A sandy beach will be created in the Traverse as the highlight of the Whitsun Fayre at the end of May.

Visitors will be able to build sandcastles, relax in deckchairs and eat seaside rock as the area outside the Halifax Building Society and Scarlet is turned into the Costa del Bury.

“We’re planning on givingvLowestoft, Dunwich and Southwold a run for their money this year by bringing a beach to Bury for the first time,” said Chief Executive of Bid4Bury Mark Cordell.

“Although the waves won’t actually be crashing on the sand, there will be the sounds of seagulls and the sea to help people get the full beach experience.”
