Burst main closes school

Around 20 homes, a school, health centre and dentist’s surgery will be without water for several hours after a water main burst.

Anglian Water were called to the burst main in Bury Road, Brandon, shortly before 7am this morning.

Water was reported to flowing down the street and into the grounds of the Forest Academy, with the school deciding to stay closed today as a result.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said its engineers had consulted with local businesses before turning off the water. It is expected to be turned on again at around 4pm.

“We wanted to speak to them before doing anything, “ he said.

“It’s a three inch cast iron pipe in the footpath so the repair should not have any huge complications.

“We’d like to apologise to the schools for having to close this morning, as well as for the inconvenience to parents and pupils.

“We also apologise to local residents who are going to be affected while we repair the mains.”
