A man has decided to move house after burglars ransacked his home and made off with what he believes to be nearly £40,000 in belongings.

Tracy Stevenson’s home in Cedar Way, Brandon, was broken into last Friday, while he was out working as a binman.

The thieves snatched items including antique teddy bears worth almost £20,000, according to Mr Stevenson, 54.

Fifteen WWII medals and a WWI bayonet were also taken before the trespassers ‘destroyed the house’.

“They literally wrecked the whole house - it looked like a tip.

“Things were smashed on the floor, the back door had been kicked in and they just didn’t care,” he said.

A metal chain was fitted to the back door to improve security, but that was undone by the burglars after they kicked through a catflap.

He believes the thieves must have been watching his schedule, as a previous break-in attempt had been made.

“I think it was probably someone who is looking for money for drugs.

“Whoever they are should have a very strong prison sentence if they are caught,” he said.

The war medals had mainly sentimental value, according to Mr Stevenson, and were from the Polish army, having been given to him as a gift.

A HD television, Tom Tom sat nav and Christmas presents were also taken in the incident.

Mr Stevenson said he had no contents insurance and would lose ‘a lot of money’ because of the break-in.

He added that he had lived at the address for three years without any trouble before these incidents.

However, following the break-in he has decided to move to Thetford.

“I am moving because I am fed up of it,” he said.

The burglary took place between 4am and 5pm.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call Suffolk Police on 101.
