Burglars escape from police after stealing from Stowmarket church

Burglars escaped from police after smashing their way into a church in Stowmarket.

Police were called to reports that burglars had broken into Gospel Hall in Violet Hill Road, just before 11pm last night.

Two men ran from police are they arrived. The police helicopter was sent to trace them but unfortunately both men escaped.

A police spokesman said the burglars had smashed a window to get into the building. They stole audio equipment and a donations box.

However most of the items were found outside the building – only the amplifier is still missing.

Police have issued descriptions of the two men.

The first is described as white, with light coloured short hair, dark trousers and a dark coloured coat with a grey hood underneath.

The second wore a black coat with a white flash on it.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Sally Parkes at the Stowmarket Response Team on 101.
