Bryan, 75, in call for hi-tech help

One man's junk is another man's treasure - and one Great Barton man is busy turning that treasure into charity cash.

Retired chip shop owner Bryan Garnham, 75, has been selling other people's unwanted items from his front garden, to raise funds for East Anglia's Children's Hospices' Treehouse Appeal and Guide Dogs for the Blind, for the past 18 months.

Now, he is calling for help from someone technically-savvy to help him to maximise takings.

He has been given a 1950s television and organ, which he knows will fetch more money if sold through online marketplace eBay. However, he does not have a computer and is hoping a kindly Bury Free Press reader with the technical know-how will be able to sell them on his behalf.

"I'm not in the 21st century so I can't do it," he said. "There is stuff in my garage that will make more for charity if sold to a specialist, so if someone likes selling stuff on eBay, I'd be grateful if they could do it on my behalf and they can take 10 per cent of the sale for their trouble."

Bryan started selling other people's unwanted items from his front garden when neighbours moved to Australia and asked him to sell what they were not taking with them.

Since then, Bryan has been inundated with unwanted goods to sell on and he has raised 3,600 for the two charities.

He currently has an electric wheelchair for sale, along with bikes, pushchairs and an impressive array of toys.

Meanwhile, his Livermere Road front garden has become one of the most driven past addresses in Great Barton, as news of the charity sales has spread.

"People have donated some fantastic items," he added.

If you think you could list the antique television and organ on eBay, contact Bryan on 01284 787390.
