Books are the best for top readers

MORE than 90 budding bookworms have been recognised for their dedication to reading after a literary summer project.
Brandon Library welcomed 96 children last Friday to receive medals and certificates for taking part in its summer reading challenge.
Participants had to read six books during their school holiday to earn an award, with this year’s theme being ‘Storylab’.
Books had to be borrowed from the library, with children now able to use e-books.
Mathew Sheldrick, Brandon Library manager, said the scheme had been a success after 180 children initially signed up.
“It’s encouraging and shows that children enjoy reading and anything we can do to promote that has got to be a good thing,” he said.
Bill Bishop, Suffolk county councillor for Brandon, was there on the day to hand over the awards.
He said: “It was a very happy afternoon for everyone and it’s fantastic to see more than 90 children get reading.”
Mr Sheldrick said local schools had been ‘fantastic’ in helping the library drum up entrants for the initiative.
