Bike ride and shirt swap will boost club funds

editorial image

A YOUTH football club is set to recieve a boost to its coffers thanks to two of its coaches.

Alistair Phillips, manager of Honington Foxes’ under-11 team, and Phil Williams, coach of the under-10s, assisted along the way by club supporter Keith Hunt, undertook a 103-mile fund-raising bike ride, leaving from the club’s home at RAF Honington and stopping off at Norwich City’s Carrow Road and Ipswich’s Portman Road, finishing off at Suffolk FA’s headquarters in Stowmarket.

The stop at Portman Road proved to be a highlight with the two clubs exchanging signed shirts. The Ipswich shirt will be sold later at a Hallowe’en party fund-raiser.

Alistair, who came up with the idea of the bike ride, said: We loved the idea of swapping shirts as it’s a great football tradition. Ipswich have really bent over backwards to help us and we’re really grateful for their help.

We’re encouraged by the donations we have received so far, which will go towards buying new kit for the boys, but are still hoping to raise some more in the next few weeks.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation to Honingon Foxes can contact Alistair by email at alistair.phillips@btinternet.com or call him on 01359 231548.
