Bike crash man disqualified

A motorcyclist who came off his bike after driving with excess alcohol has been banned from driving for 12 months.

Wayne Ablett, prosecuting, told magistrates on Friday that at around 7.45pm on September 3, a police officer was flagged down after a man had come off their bike. When police attended the scene on Stowmarket Road, Old Newton, paramedics were treating William Eric Smith.

“He disclosed to the paramedic that he had drunk three to four pints,” said Mr Ablett.

Smith, 45, Church Road, Old Newton, was taken to hospital, where he recorded 86 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg. Smith shattered his shoulder and pelvis in the accident. He was banned from driving for a year, reduced by three months on completion of a course, fined £100 with costs of £85 and a £15 victim surcharge.
