Battle of the bakers reaches its conclusion
Suffolk’s top amateur bakers presented their best cakes, breads and quiches as they battled in the final of the Great Suffolk Bake Off.

After fierce deliberation the title of Suffolk’s best amateur baker was awarded jointly to Ailie McLuckie, 11, of Ipswich, and Bury Free Press reporter, Emma Lake.
Ailie made an eight plait Suffolk loaf containing Suffolk sausages and cheese while Emma made a Suffolk carrot and parsnip cake with vegetables from Elveden Estate.
Ailie said: “I was so happy I could not believe it they said it was really good and they really liked all the flavours.”
Emma and Ailie had won the adult sweet and under-16 savoury categories to go forward to compete for the top prize.
The under-16 sweet category was won by Molly-Anne Gimson, 8, from West Row.
Molly, who presented the judges with honey buns, said it ‘felt great’ to have won her category.
She often bakes with her family and mum, Susannah Gimson and sister Chloe Gimson also competed in the final after coming top in their categories at the Bury St Edmunds heat.
The adult savoury category was won by Kirsty Mccullough, 25, of Felixstowe who had made a savoury cake containing Suffolk blue cheese, Suffolk bacon, and Aspall cider.
Judge Regis Crepy, owner of The Great House in Lavenham, said: “I was surprised by the quality and the commitment the contestants. The competition was amazing and the winners deserve to be winners.
“They really understood the main thing is the taste and then Suffolk ingredients extremely well presented. We really gave the first prize on the taste.”
The Great Suffolk Bake Off was organised by Genesis PR and raised more that £1100 for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Genesis have been part of the hospice’s accumulator challenge in which companies were given £50 to turn into as much money as possible.
Jane Petit, chief executive of St Elizabeth Hospice said: “Genesis have done amazing things with that £50. Managed to boost that fund and raise awareness of the hospice among people who may not have known about our work.”
