BACTON Community Middle School hosted a hard fought battle of the bands last week- to see who would escape its spooky dungeon.

The competition, held on June 28, saw nine bands take to the stage to earn their freedom from King Rodderick’s cells in a dungeon-themed night of music.

The dramatic dungeon set and Jason Calvert’s turn as the dastardly king kept the audience entertained between the bands’ performances.

More than 40 students took part in the competition with each band given one hour per week professional coaching after school by Dick Forsdyke and Tony Wright.

Winners Crystal Wrist, made up of Year 8 pupils Loren Fuell, on vocals, Jack Claydon and Brennan Minns on guitar, Issac Ling on bass and Zoran Fisher on drums, shined through to gain their freedom.

Head of music Patrick Crook said all the bands had played superbly.

He said: “It was a great evening. It was packed out with a very appreciative audience. The bands played superb and out-played even their own expectations.”
