Bags of donations come in for charity shop

Staff at a charity shop are celebrating after collecting 90 bags of goods at a special 'donation station'.

Workers from the Cancer Research UK outlet in Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, were at the town's Tesco supermarket on Wednesday taking in donations - and they ended up with 90 bags, with an average sale price of 30 each.

Store manager Julia Bolton said the idea had come about because donors often did not realise they could drop off goods at the shop's back entrance, meaning the store struggled to get enough stock.

"Lynda Osborn, the community champion at Tesco has been amazingly helpful and last week we spent a day here giving out bags for customers to fill," she said.

"We came back to collect this week and the response has been great - we collected more than I expected to.

"We need about 300 bags a week to keep the shop at tip-top level, so this has gone a long way to filling the shelves. I'm ecstatic."

Ms Bolton said staff and volunteers hoped to repeat the exercise in the summer.
