Award for former RAF Lakenheath airman

A former airman at RAF Lakenheath has been awarded a £500,000 settlement after his airforce career was cut short by a road accident.

Juan Feliciano-Diaz was station at Lakenheath in 2006 when he was badly injured in a crash as he was driving his jeep towards Tuddenham on the Higham Road.

A leg injury became a permanent painful problem and when he returned to work he was moved to a desk job from his previous role as a Staff Sergeant working in avionics on the base's flightline. He never regained full mobility and was medically discharged from the Air Force in November 2007.

He is currently unemployed, having returned to his native Puerto Rico.

The majority of his claim was for loss of earnings and pension and military benefits. A smaller portion related to the injury and his medical treatment.

A statement by law firm Kester Cunningham John said that at the time of the accident he had looked forward to a second civilian careeer as an avionic technician but now faced uncertainty in the labour market.
