Author’s new book
AN AUTHOR and lecturer has chronicled an alternative history to Bury St Edmunds in a new book.
Bury St Edmunds – a Rebellious Town, by Dr David Dougan, shines a new perspective on the town, one ready to take up arms in pursuit of grievances and where people were ready to suffer fines and imprisonment for their beliefs.
The book also looks at extreme cases where residents were willing to become martyrs to their causes – further fuelling the town’s reputation for dissent.
Dr Dougan is a former journalist, broadcaster and arts administrator.
Published in association with the University of the Third Age, in Bury, and supported by Suffolk County Council’s locality budget, the book is available from Grove Publishing, in Grove Road, Bury, priced £5.
