Armed Forces Day in Bury raises thousands

Bury St Edmunds has raised the fantastic total of £40,000 for the Help for Heroes charity during its Armed Forces Day celebrations.

Busineses in the town, St Edmundsbury Borough Council and the Town Centre Management held a series of events with a vintage market, open air concert and stalls in the Abbey Gardens, a dinner and auction at The Corn Exchange and an X factor concert and talent show in the arc.

One of the main organisers for some of the events was Giles Henderson of Six Whiting Street, the gents outfitters

Regulars at the Tollgate pub also raised funds with a sponsored bed push through the town.

Town centre manager, Steve Peters said: "This event has been a phenomenal success with so many businesses getting behind such a great cause and showing support for our armed forces."
