Aprons at the ready for the county’s best bakers
Suffolk’s amateur bakers are picking up their mixing bowls and devising recipes to showcase the best of the county for The Great Suffolk Bake Off.
The competition, based upon the popular BBC television series, will raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Applicants from across the county will enter a signature bake, which through produce or presentation must represent the theme of Suffolk, in the hope of making it to the grand final.
There are four categories open to entrants a sweet and a savoury category for those over 16 and a sweet and savoury category for those under 16.
Three heats will be held across the county and the winners in each category from each heat will compete in the grand final.
The Bury St Edmunds’ heat will take place from midday on February 23 at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, in Beetons Way.
The bakes will be marked on their taste, aroma, presentation and Suffolk relevance by a formidable line-up of six judges, including chefs Regis Crepy, Emma Crowhurst and Chris Lee

Bury Free Press reporter Emma Lake will be throwing her wooden spoon in the sponge ring and entering the bake off.
In the build up to Bury St Edmunds heat, in which I will enter both a savoury and a sweet bake, I will speaking to local producers, bakery experts and the competition’s knowledgeable judges.
