Appeal for residents to share history and photographs of estate

Pupils and staff of a Moreton Hall school are appealing to local residents for help with their latest group project.
Following last month’s Ofsted inspection, which rated Abbots Green Community Primary School as good and recognised its whole school project approach to learning, its pupils have started their spring term by becoming local historians.
Now they are asking residents past and present to help them learn more about their local area.
Headteacher Heidi Franklin said: “The new Airfield Road project involves the whole school learning about their local area both past and present.
“This will include visitors coming into the school to share stories from the past, learning about Rougham Airfield and finding out more about the development of the rapidly growing Moreton Hall area through the use of historical documents.”
So far, the pupils have created their own maps of the neighbourhood and, armed with cameras, during a recent outing took photographs of buildings and other features that interested them, returning to school to recreate some of those sights, including the post box and road signs in Airfield Road.
“All the children are really excited about our new project and are really enjoying sharing information with their class about the area that they live in,” said teacher Jenna Sweeney.
It is hoped that local businesses and residents will want to get involved with the project and pupils are appealing to anyone with interesting information about the Moreton Hall area to get in touch.
This could include the history of the estate, old photographs or stories about how it has changed since first being developed.
