Annual Jam performs well
A FUND-RAISER held last weekend brought in more than £2,000 towards a new skatepark in Bury St Edmunds.
The Olding Road park’s annual Skate Jam event, held on Sunday, raised a total of £2,327 after organisers decided to charge entry for the first time to help boost funds.
Around 200 people entered the competitions, with winners including Louis Buchan and Kallum Keringham on scooter, Will Taylor and Ash Finley on BMX and Will Dixon and Jake Royal on skate.
Harley Miller, chairman of Bury Skatepark Experience, a committee leading fund-raising efforts, said: “I’d say it was the best one yet. There was a great atmosphere and one of the highest we’ve had in the level of competition.”
He said fund-raising had proved so successful that it was likely entry to future Jam events would also be charged.
Work to replace the skatepark’s original wooden structure with a bespoke concrete design is expected to start in February, at an estimated cost of £300,000.
