Animal care packs sent out
An animal rights campaign groups is rushing emergency education kits to schools in the wake of a case where a man microwaved a cat.
PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals)has delivered the kits to schools in towns including Thetford, Methwold and Feltwell following the case of 19-year-old, Jamie Lee Blake, who killed his pet, Buddy , on September 27.
Blake was jailed last week for 22 weeks, and Ben Williamson, spokesman for PETA, said the kits included ‘humane education materials’.
“The packs are full of games and exercises to allow children to see that animals have the same emotions as humans have,” he said.
Mr Williamson said findings by mental health experts also showed cruelty to animals could be a ‘red flag’ for future offences against humans.
“Instilling empathy in children and teaching them to take responsibility for any animals in their care is vital. The safety of the whole community might depend on it,” he said.
The packs were sent out last Friday.
