A TOWN councillor has asked for more to be done to stop fly-tippers after rubbish was repeatedly dumped near his home.

Denis Crawford, Thetford Town councillor for Saxon ward, made the plea after ten sacks of rubbish, including household waste and a vacuum cleaner, were deposited in bin alcoves near his home in St Michael’s Close on Tuesday.

“I am very unhappy as Breckland have hardly anyone to enforce flytipping prevention.

“As far as I know there’s only one officer who works for Breckland and South Holland Council.

“I find it very frustrating to have to keep reporting these incidents,” he said.

During the latest incident, tippers were spotted by residents and told to stop - but carried on regardless.

Cllr Crawford said aside from the fly-tipping, offenders would regularly dump rubbish in other residents’ wheely bins, meaning they would fill up just days after refuse collection.

He added that an addressed letter had been found in the rubbish and passed on to police.
