An intimate taste of India
Orissa offers contemporary Indian food. On a Wednesday night, feeling very hungry, it provided me and a friend with a delicious variety of food in a relaxed setting.
As is to be expected on a Wednesday night the restaurant was relatively quiet which aided the quick, attentive and jovial service we enjoyed.
We started our meal with poppadoms (£1 each) which were perfectly crispy and accompanied with a selection of dips.
The highlight of my meal was the starter of achari lamb chops (£6.25), which I immediately regretted sharing.
The chops, marinated in dry spices and served on crushed potatoes, were very flavourful without being too hot.
We also shared some hot tandoori chicken wings (£4.95), served with a cooling yogurt dip which were sticky and delicious.
When it came to selecting our mains we were pleased to see Orissa offered all our favourites as well as a selection of more unusual dishes.
I selected a chicken pasanda (£9.95) accompanied by pilau rice and a peshwari naan (£3.25) while my friend choose a chicken bhuna (£9.95) and keema naan (£3.45).
Both dishes were well flavoured and utterly free of the disturbing layer of oil too frequently seen floating atop curries.
In a redeeming nod to our health we also ordered a vegetable side of achari bindi (3.95) served in a tomato sauce.
Orissa offers an intimate secluded setting to enjoy their varied menu perfect for parties or a meal with a partner.
