An extra special nativity
A Suffolk primary school put on a very special nativity play this Christmas - performing in a barn with real animals.
Around 60 children from Creeting St Mary Primary School took part in the performance at Grange Farm, Stowupland, which also starred a sheep, chickens and a real donkey.
The special nativity, on December 17, came about after the school was involved in the Waiting for Christmas project where 3,000 children from schools across the county performed concerts at the Spa Pavilion in Felixtowe and the Apex in Bury St Edmunds.
Headteacher Lyn Spall said: “I wrote the play as a traditional nativity story and wove in songs the children had learnt for the Waiting for Christmas project into the play.
“They had been learning the songs since September and then working on the nativity in early December.
“It was great - everybody had a part to play whether it was in the choir, as dancers, as actors or as a narrator.
The farm belongs to a parent whose child goes to the school.
“They had kindly built a stable and a home for the sheep and chickens as well as a stage.
“The audience sat on straw bails but we had professional lighting and sound.
“Afterwards people were treated to hot chocolate and mince pies.”
Mrs Spall said the performance was an emotional experience.
She said: “There were lots of tissues needed on the night.
“It went really well - watching it I got a tingle down my spine.”
