‘Amazing’ response to Peel Archive

John Peel’s incredible personal record collection, which started to go online in May, has had hundreds of thousands of visitors already ,according to John Peel Centre chairman Andrew Stringer.
The online music archive, which features 100 bands of a different letter each week, has now reached R in the alphabet.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ, who lived in Great Finborough, near Stowmarket, until his death in 2004, had amassed a colossal collection of 26,000 albums, 40,000 singles and countless CDs.
The online archive was created in partnership between the John Peel Centre for Creative Arts, the Arts Council and Eye Film and TV.
Andrew said he had been overwhelmed by the number of people who had visited the archive.
He said: “The response towards the online archive had been absolutely amazing – it has been superb. The website has had hundreds of thousands of visitors already. It shows the enormous interest in John’s legacy.”
Although the archive is due to finish on October 26, vice-chairman Tom Barker said they hoped to extend the project past this date.
He said: “We hope to continue the project past October because it has been such a huge success.”
