All change at the top for councils
A MAJOR project to reduce the number of directors and top managers at St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Forest Heath District Council has begun.
The two councils, which already share one chief executive Ian Gallin, announced yesterday that they had halved their number of directors from four to two.
St Edmundsbury’s head of finance Liz Watts, and corporate director for community Alex Wilson, will take up roles as directors for both councils next month.
Sandra Pell MBE, who has been at St Edmundsbury for 20 years and is its corporate director for economy and environment, is being made redundant along with Forest Heath’s director of resources Andrew Claydon and director of services Nigel McCurdy.
The next step for the two councils, to cut the number of heads of service from 15 to nine, is due to be finalised later this month.
Leaders of St Edmundsbury Cllr John Griffiths and Forest Heath Cllr James Waters said: “We are delighted that we have recruited two talented directors with the skills to take us into our new, shared future.
“There is a challenging job to be done, bringing the staff of two councils together to provide top quality services, and we are confident that Alex and Liz will help to provide strong leadership across West Suffolk.”
