Albert and Marilyn fascinate shoppers

Saint Edmund is being brought to life in a Bury St Edmunds shopping centre, thanks to a Coney Weston artist.

Ned Pamphilon, 45, of Thetford Road, is currently staging a two-week art event in Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre, aimed at interacting with members of the public, painting in a live environment and generating interest in his work.

During the Walk in Wandering – Walk out Wondering event, Mr Pamphilon is working on a painting of Saint Edmund, which he hopes to finish by September 21.

Mr Pamphilon said: "This experience has been amazing as I have managed to inspire others and paint in a live environment – it takes longer but it is enjoyable.

"What I really want to do is generate interest in my work, show people what I can do and hopefully sell my pieces all over the world."

One of the most popular displayed pieces has been Albert Munroe-Marilynstein, a picture which looks like Marilyn Monroe or Albert Einstein, depending on where you stand to look at it.

Mr Pamphilon is planning more community events for the future, including working at Highpoint Prison.

Chrissy Harrod, manager of Cornhill Walk Shopping Centre, said: "Ned has captured everyone's imagination and we have had so many people in looking at his work and chatting to him – it is fantastic."
