The man in charge of the A11 dualling project has promised that disruption to residents’ lives will be kept to a minimum.
Highways Agency project manager, Robert Gibson, insisted planners had done all they can to deliver the £134 million project with minimal impact on locals’ day to day life.
“We have been meeting with all the local councils to explain the process and traffic management has been high on the agenda.
“The important thing is communication - people need to know in advance when works are going to be taking place so they can change their journeys accordingly,” he said.
Mr Gibson was speaking at the opening of a public exhibition of the planned works in Elveden on Thursday.
Visitors were shown plans for the works, including a traffic management schematic, finds from archaeological surveys and a birdseye image of how the completed road will look.
Mr Gibson said he hoped the three day exhibition would give the Highways Agency a chance to ease residents’ fears over the works.
Work begins on the 9.1 mile stretch of road in January, with preliminary works having already taken place.
The project will see a new bypass built around Elveden, with the existing road widened from the Fiveways roundabout.
Work is due to be completed by December 2014.
