A taste of summer at first strawberry fayre

As the country revels in Wimbledon, it was 'Strawberry Fields' in a corner of Needham Market when Alder Carr Farm staged its first strawberry fayre.

Crowds flocked to the farm and enjoyed a feast as they picked a range of strawberries with the exotic sounding names such as El Santa, Florence and Sonata.

The fayre was held at the same time as the monthly farmers' market and there were 40 stalls on show for visitors, including a host of craft stalls.

People also had a chance to taste the farm's own fruit cream ice with a range of flavours including, of course, strawberry.

Barry Sheldrake, farm manager, said: "We were very busy.

"This was our first and it was a big success and stallholders want to come back again next year so we will definitely do this again next year."
