A night for Sophie
Fund-raiser in memory of Sophie Gardner at The Macebearer in Bury St Edmunds
A NIGHT of music and remembrance raised more than £800 in a schoolgirl’s memory.
The Macebearer, in Bury St Edmunds, rocked on July 21 in memory of Sophie Gardner, who died in 2005 at the age of 13 from cancer.
It would have been Sophie’s 21st birthday and it was one to remember as brother Joseph performed with his band.
A range of cash-generating activities, including a raffle, were put on, with the money going to Clic Sargent.
Sarah Gardner said the charity had helped her family throughout her sister’s illness.
“They supported us and made sure the family could cope.
“I think Sophie would be grateful for what we are doing by raising money for a cause that was so helpful,” she said.
Sarah also thanked her friend, Laura Evans, who helped her to organise the event and Jamie Oldes, who sacrificed his hair with a sponsored head shave.
