A national stage for Emrys
A high-flying teenager has been opening doors for young people who want to get into theatre.
Emrys Green, 16, is already a member of the UK Youth Parliament and Bury St Edmunds Youth Council, but has now also been chosen to represent young people on the Arts Council England's national youth council – all while studying for his A-levels.
As part of the council, the King Edward VI School pupil is encouraging more youngsters to get involved with theatre.
Working on the Young People's Participatory Theatre project, Emrys will help to develop youth circuses and theatres and to plan events that will see theatres open their doors to children.
"There are so many different things you can do with theatre," he said.
"Being involved with theatre has helped to improve my confidence and it's brought me into contact with some great people."
Currently, he is co-ordinating five youth theatre productions, including a play for the 2007 Shakespeare Schools Festival.
The member of the Theatre Royal youth group is also working on Scary Play, which will be performed at the Theatre Royal, in Bury, and in Norwich.
