50 years of care is celebrated at home
The Martins Care Home celebrate 50 years.
A RESIDENTIAL home has celebrated 50 years of offering specialised care to its elderly residents.
The Martins residential home marked the milestone with a service and buffet for residents and their families on Saturday.
Simon Manning, manager of the home in Bury St Edmunds, said: “Fifty years ago, residential care was very different. The biggest change is that everybody has single en-suite rooms and the focus is on maintaining their skills and individuality.”
During Saturday’s service residents were entertained by chamber choir Ex Silentio, from King Edward VI School.
The service was opened by St Edmundsbury Mayor Cllr Tim Marks, who said: “It’s a testament to the excellent management and leadership that The Martins has a reputation as an excellent home with first class care.”
The Martins is home to 42 residents and offers specialised dementia care.
Mr Manning said at the heart of their ethos was the delivery of personalised care to improve the quality of life for older people.
At The Martins this care includes music therapy and reflexology sessions.
