£14m Army training facility opens at Stanta

The Army showed off its new training facility at Stanta, near Thetford, today.

The 14 million facility, which opened for operational use at the end of April, includes a new rural Afghanistan village compound and an urban Afghanistan setting, which is, in part, newly constructed and also includes existing buildings, which have been modified from Northern Ireland-style street scenes.

The training areas were designed by the Operational Training Advisory Group to replicate situation troops could face on operations in Afghanistan.

Today, soldiers from the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards carried out training exercises including shuras (council meetings with 'natives'), IED threats and security framework patrolling.
