Lesley Ryland is planning to mark her 50th birthday with much more than a party.

Lesley, a director of the Bury St Edmunds jewellers Thurlow Champness, is planning a ‘50-50-50’ fund raiser for Cancer Research UK, the business’ nominated charity this year.

She said: “I’m 50 in July so I’m doing 50 per cent of a marathon on a rowing machine then I’m going to cycle 50 miles.”

Her plan is to get straight off the rowing machine at Bury Leisure Centre onto a bike, but she plans to do it on her mid-week day off on July 3, so she will have time to recover before her birthday on the sixth.

She is a keen Cancer Research supporter and says: “I’ve lost a few friends and family to cancer and it would be good to be able to see it as a thing of the past.”
