A VET surgery’s hedgehog mascot now has a name thanks to Jessica Willingham.
Eastgate Veterinary Group, whose headquarters are in Cotton Lane, Bury St Edmunds, have used a hedgehog cartoon on their adverts and literature for four years.
But practice partner Alex Wylie said: “He’s never been named, which I think is a bit sad.”
So to solve the prickly question of a hedgehog name, they ran a competition in the Bury Free Press during the school summer holidays.
They asked children to draw their own picture of him and come up with a good hedgehog name.
Jessica, a five year old pupil at Tollgate School, won with the name Herbie, taking the first prize of vouchers for a day with four friends at the Bury roller skating venue CurveMotion plus a magic game.
But Alex said the vets were so impressed with the picture drawn by Abbots Green School pupil Max Baldry, also five, that they added a special prize for him of a magic game.
The children collected their prizes at CurveMotion last week.
Alex added: “I drive our van with the hedgehog on the side so now I can call my van Herbie.
“I can say’ I’m just going out in Herbie’. It’s a great name for a hedgehog.”
