FRIDAY, MARCH 29 – FRANK GIASULLO & ART THEMEN: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £18. Bookings: 01787 211865) A straight-ahead swinging band led by Giasullo, a bold, bluesy American pianist and Themen, one of the great British saxophonists. Their quartet is completed by Dave Green (bass) and Pat Tamminen (drums).

SUNDAY, MARCH 31 – EMILY DANKWORTH: (Cherry Tree, Knowl Green, 8pm, £8. Info: www.jazz-nights.com) Daughter of Alec, granddaughter of John and Cleo, rising star singer Emily makes her Jazznights debut with the Roger Odell Trio, plus a bonus set from singer Larraine Odell. 
B. D. LENZ (The Fox, Bury, 7.15pm, free) A rare chance to catch New York-based contemporary jazz guitarist equally influenced by Pat Metheny, Mike Stern and Stevie Ray Vaughan. ANDY BOWIE (Tram Shed, Cambridge, 8.30, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor and the Pete Shepherd Trio present a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire at a new venue.

MONDAY, APRIL 1 – JAZZ JAM: (The Cottage, Silver Road, Norwich, 8pm, free. Enquiries: brendan@jazzjam.org.uk) New venue for established and friendly jam session led by bassist Brendan Youngs.

TUESDAY, APRIL 2 – MATTEO RAGGI: (Oaklands Hotel, Norwich, 8.30, £10. Info: macjazznorwich@gmail.com) Swinging Italian tenor saxophonist returns to Norwich jazz club, featuring Simon Brown (piano), Ivars Galenieks (bass) and Brian McAllister (drums).

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3– PHRONESIS: (The Apex, Bury, 8pm, £8-£14) Superb Scandinavian/British post-rock piano trio, as imaginative and skilful as any on the international scene, featuring leader Jasper Hoiby (bass) with Ivo Neame (piano) and Anton Eger (drums). SCOTT HAMILTON (Lakeside, Lyng, 8pm, £12. Bookings 01328 863511) Especially for those thwarted by the weather-forced cancellation at the Hunter Club in January, the appearance of an American jazz superstar. One of the great tenor stylists of the last 35 years, Scott is the living history of swinging jazz saxophone, with Chris Ingham (piano), Ivars Galenieks (bass) and George Double (drums).

THURSDAY, APRIL 4 – SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND: (Maltings Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm, free. Info: 01986 896143) Residency for established and popular Dixieland band, featuring Ray Simmons (trumpet), Tim Densham (clarinet/sax), Ron Hockett (clarinet/saxophone), Alan Cugnoni (banjo/guitar), Tony Jullings (bass) and Craig Hipperson (drums).

FRIDAY, APRIL 5 – STAN TRACEY TRIO: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £20. Bookings: 01787 211865) The indestructible Godfather of British modern jazz brings his individual, energetic mix of Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington to the piano of Fleece Jazz in the long-established company of Andy Cleyndert (bass) and Clark Tracy (drums).
