IPSWICH Town fan Russell Claydon – Anglia Newspapers’ deputy sports editor – raised £608.01 for Sport Relief after donning the opposition’s colours.
The true blue die-hard appeared in front of 16,500 at Ipswich’s home match against Burnley while wearing a Norwich City kit.
He then completed the Sport Relief Mile at West Suffolk Athletics Track in the colours.
Already he has surpassed his £500 target and is due to rake in more when he auctions the kit, which has been signed by 19 Norwich players, on eBay (see next week’s Free Press sport).
He said: “I’m delighted with the amount and it’s great to think I’ve beaten my target, which people said was ambitious. It isn’t something I would do again.
“It was about turning embarassment into pride because it’s embarassing to wear the rival shirt.
“I did the mile in seven minutes as I didn’t want to be in the kit a second longer than I had to.”
