Ingham solar farm appeal ahead

Have your say

Developers wanting to build a solar farm on land north west of Ingham will be putting their case at a planning appeal on September 16.

Last Thursday, St Edmundsbury’s development control committee confirmed action taken using emergency powers to add a further reason to the council’s refusal to grant planning permission to Gamma Solar Ltd.

The company want to instal 108,000 solar panels and have twice revised its scheme to tackle landscaping concerns.

St Edmundsbury rejected the plan because it felt the scheme would significantly prejudice the visual amenity of the area and was ‘overtly utilitarian in design’.

Councillors have now also agreed that there was no demonstration that the applicants had also considered alternative sites of brownfield or non agricultural land.

The applicants argue that significant landscaping would provide adequate and future environmental protection to the area.

Extra planting had been added to the plan.
