AN ILLEGAL rave in an area of historic woodland was broken up after a raid by police this morning.
Officers found 20 trespassers, loud music and a camp fire after being called to Combs Wood, near Stowmarket, at 7am.
A direction to leave notice was issued at 8am and by 9am the site had been cleared. No arrests were made but sound equipment was seized.
A fire crew also had to attend to extinguish the camp fire and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Inspector Mark Larner, duty inspector for West Suffolk Police, said: “Suffolk Police will not tolerate raves and the damage and nuisance they cause. Anyone organising a rave will face prosecution for holding such an event.
“We will seek to prosecute anyone attending a rave who commits other offences, such as damage.”
Anyone with information in relation to this incident should contact Sergeant Gavin Goldfinch at Stowmarket Police Station on 01284 774100 or Crimstoppers on 0800 555 111.
