A community transport scheme for the elderly and disabled in Thetford looks like it may be saved.
Age Concern Thetford which closes next week announced it could no longer provide the community bus which brings people into the town from outlying areas and provides a service to Bury St Edmunds on Wednesdays.
Now Suffolk Community Transport says other community transport groups have come forward interested in running the scheme and negotiations are underway with them.
Thetford Age Concern lost 80 per cent of its local authority funding two years ago and has been forced to close. Its information services have been taken on by Age UK Norfolk but the organisation does not operate transport schemes. John Morgan, Thetford Age Concern chairman, said: “We’re hopeful people in Thetford will see the transport services we currently provide protected.”
