A resident at a Bury St Edmunds care home celebrated her 100th birthday with a visit to RAF Honington.
Hetty Ell’s trip, which was organised by her family and staff members at the RMBI home Cornwallis Court, included a tour around the RAF centre followed by birthday greetings and a cake from the RAF regiment.
She also got to sign the Book of Honour in the presence of her son Charles.
During the war, Hetty was a trained nurse and a driver. As well as caring for people, she would help to transport people to different areas as part of her role.
Meanwhile, pupils at Westgate Primary School also visited the care home, in Hospital Road, to sing ‘happy birthday’ to her as part of her celebrations.
Hetty said: “Life is what you make it and I feel very lucky. I’m surrounded by good people and that’s what makes all the difference.”
