Project aims for hat-trick

AN INNOVATIVE scheme whereby people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can receive specialist care in their own homes has been short-listed for three national awards.

The scheme, run by West Suffolk Hospital across the county, was introduced in 2009 and earlier this year was presented with an innovation award by the British Thoracic Society.

The latest nominations are for innovators of the year, nursing team of the year and clinical team of the year in the General Practice Awards to be announced on November 1.

Dr Linda Pearce, clinical lead for Suffolk COPD, said: “To be short-listed in three categories is fantastic news and something of which our staff can be proud.”

The scheme also won an innovation award in 2010.
