Visitors to West Suffolk Hospital will get longer visiting hours from Tuesday as the hospital aims to ease parking congestion and offer greater flexibility for visitors.
Instead of the current one hour in the afternoon and one hour in the evening visiting times on most wards will now run from 2.30pm to 5pm and from 6.30pm to 8pm.
The neonatal unit, Rainbow ward. Maternity ward, oncology ward and acute medical unit will be unaffected by the change.
Deputy chief nurse Sam Bower said this had arisen after feedback from hospital users who asked for more flexibility.
“We decided to revise our visiting hours after listening to feedback from people using the hospital, who told us they wanted more flexibility to come and see their loved ones at times which were more convenient for them.
“We fully appreciate the beneficial effect which spending time with family and friends can have, but are also conscious that our patients need rest during their recovery.
“We think the new visiting times will provide this balance and hope they are well received by everyone using West Suffolk Hospital.”
