A ball celebrating the life of midwife Hannah Seeley who died in a car crash in April2012 has raised £4,000 which will helped to provide a new birthing pool at West Suffolk Hospital.
The inaugural Hannah Seeley Awards Ball was at Hengrave Hall on Friday and during the evening five special awards were presented by consultant obstetricians David Ross and Peter Harris who workeds closely with Hannah, aged 23.
The winers were: Hannah Seeley Midwife of the Year, Vicky Fallows; Mentor of the Year, Sue Pickwick, Promoting Normal Birth award, Marie Moye, Team of the Year, Lark Midwifery Team and Innovation in Midwifery Practice, Lesley Price.
Friends and family of Hannah have already raised £20,000 towards the additional pool, led by her fiancé Mark Wade.
Patricia Davis, head of midwifery at the hospital, said: “We were incredibly impressed by the number and quality of the nominations we received for these important awards which we organised to celebrate Hannah’s life.
“The money will be added to the fantastic sum already raised by Hannah’s fiancé Mark and will pay for an additional birthing pool at the hospital, Not only will this make a big difference to lots of women in the future but it will also ensure that Hannah’s memory continues to live on.”
Among the prizes auctioned during the evening were a two week holiday in Florida, a villa in the Algarve, a signed Norwich City shirt and £400 driving package donated by Ixworth based Fun on Wheels.
