The Samuel Ward Academy Trust has announced that Andy Prestoe will lead the development of the new Sybil Andrews Academy in Bury St Edmunds.

Andy, the current principal of Samuel Ward Academy, is to take on a leading role at the new secondary school on Bury’s Moreton Hall estate, which will open in September next year.

The Sybil Andrews Academy will become the eighth school under the banner of the Samuel Ward Trust.

Announcing the news, Howard Lay, Chief Executive of the Samuel Ward Academy Trust, said: “Andy Prestoe, current principal of Samuel Ward, is to lead the development of the Sybil Andrews Academy on a part-time basis from Christmas before moving to a full-time role from September 2016.

“As a result, I have advertised for a principal at Samuel Ward on a part-time basis from Christmas so that there is a clear transition up to September.

“The Samuel Ward Academy Trust will support Samuel Ward throughout this period and Andy and I, as part of a wider team, will continue supporting the school in the future either as executive headteachers or in a more strategic role.

“The Samuel Ward Academy Trust is a rapidly growing organisation with three secondary schools - Thomas Gainsborough in Sudbury, Newmarket Academy and Samuel Ward - three primary schools - Coupals and Westfield in Haverhill and Glemsford - and Churchill Special Free School on the Samuel Ward site.

“The Trust is there to provide support and challenge to all its schools to ensure that they make continuous progress.”
