A housing association has submitted plans to build 32 affordable homes on the site of what was, until recently, a thriving Bury St Edmunds pub.

Havebury Housing Partnership is seeking planning consent to demolish the Priors Inn, in Priors Avenue, and two bungalows to the west to redevelop the site with 12 two-bedroom houses, nine two-bedroom chalet bungalows and 11 one-bedroom flats.

It is also seeking approval to create an additional 60 car parking spaces by rearranging the existing parking area to the south of the pub.

According to the plans, submitted to St Edmundsbury Borough Council, contemporary elements used to ‘enliven the design’ include cantilevered zinc covered porch roofs, flat roofs for the dormer windows and glazed balcony ballustrading.
